1 refers to comparing and checking the same book with different versions and related materials to test the similarities and differences, authenticity, right and wrong of its words.
Tang Juyi's "Ce Erh Lin, Big Officials and Lack of People": "Secret officials are not specially used for proofreading." Song Ouyang Xiu's The Later Book: "I proofread this book in the library and found that there are more than 80 articles, but there are many confusions and repetitions." Hu Shi reprinted Preface to Gan Long Renzi Edition: "He expected that people who read novels would never bother to proofread them carefully with various books."
2, or verification. Contrast check.
Tang Feng wrote "Feng Shiwen Ji Jian": "Dr. Taichang is in charge of the funeral affairs, the official records the affairs, Shen Shangshu examines them, and then Dr. Taichang drafts them, and reports them to the province and the provincial department for approval before the trial." "The second part of the Yuan Dynasty": "You must present the staff and instruments in detail, and do as usual."
3. Revise the official names of palace books in Song Dynasty.
Biography of Ouyang Xiu, History of Song Dynasty: "The article became famous and entered the collation pavilion of the DPRK."
Proofreading principle:
The collation principle has three purposes: one day to preserve the truth, two days to correct differences and three days to correct mistakes. There are two kinds of truth, one is for the truth of ancient books and the other is for the truth of facts. Seeking the truth of ancient books is mostly done by bibliophiles. When they get a rare edition, they should check it with the popular edition, and compare the similarities and differences of the characters, as well as the lines, layout, differences between Ning and Yuan, paper quality and even circles in the old edition.
Stamp albums and the like should be recorded one by one. Seeking truth from facts means "judging right and wrong", that is, making a wrong judgment on the historical facts of the original work. Proofreading differences only list similarities and differences, and proofreaders don't judge right or wrong. Correcting mistakes is the best proofreading. We should understand the causes of mistakes and correct them with the original text or principles.
