the stage of antithetical couplet
Parallel prose originated from the Ci and Fu of the Eastern Han Dynasty, flourished in Wei and Jin Dynasties, and flourished in the Southern and Northern Dynasties. As can be seen from its name, parallel prose is a style that advocates duality and is mostly composed of antithetical sentences. The continuous use of this antithetical sentence is also called parallelism or parallelism. In Wen Xin Diao Long Ming Shi, Liu Xie commented that the parallel style is "a couple of hundred words, and it is strange to compete for a price." Take Wang Bo's Preface to Tengwang Pavilion in the early Tang Dynasty as an example:
The preface belongs to Sanqiu in September. The water is exhausted and the cold pool is clear, and the smoke is condensed and the mountains are purple. Yan Yan enjoys going on the road and visiting the scenery to worship Afghanistan. Close to Changzhou, Di Zi, it is the old hall of immortals. The mountains are green and the clouds are heavy; The flying pavilion is full of blood, and there is no land under it. Heting Guzhu, the haunt of poor islands; Gui Dian Lan Gong, that is, the posture of hills and mountains.
Embroidering the Lu, overlooking the carving, Yamahara is full of its vision, and Kawasawa is full of its foresight. Lu Yan, the home of Zhong Ming Ding Food; Ge ship maze, the axis of green finch and Huanglong. Cloud sales rain Ji, colorful and clear. Sunset and lonely Qi Fei, autumn water * * * the sky is the same color. Fishing boats sing late, ringing the coast of Peng Li; Yan zhen was shocked by the cold, and the sound broke the Pu of Hengyang.
All of them are organized by antithetical sentences, among which "Sunset and lonely Qi Fei, autumn water * * * and the sky is the same color" is an eternal antithetical sentence. This kind of antithesis is the further development of antithesis in ancient poetry and prose, which has the following three characteristics: First, antithesis is no longer purely a rhetorical device, but has become the main metrical requirement of style. Parallel prose has three characteristics, namely, four or six sentence patterns, parallel couplets and allusions. Second, the number of dual words has certain rules. Mainly the "46" sentence pattern and its variant forms. Mainly include: four-character dual, six-character dual, eight-character dual, cross dual and twelve-character dual. Third, the antithesis is quite skillful, but there are many words such as "Zhi, Er", and the tonal antithesis is not fully mature.
