Appreciation of couplets in Cai ancient dwellings

Cai's ancient residence in Guanqiao, Nan 'an was built by Cai Qian, an overseas Chinese in the Philippines in the late Qing Dynasty. Cai Qian (1839—1911), a senior, is a native of Guanqiao, Nan 'an, and an overseas Chinese industrialist. Since 1855, he has built two shrines in his hometown, including thirteen Chinese temples. Cai Qian is enthusiastic about public welfare. He once donated huge sums of money to run a school and donate money for disaster relief. Awarded (second-class) "Senior Minister" by the Qing court, it was once called "Hu Xueyan in southern Fujian".

There are 23 ancient Chinese houses in Cai family, which are large in scale and orderly arranged. It is a grand view garden of Chinese ancient buildings in southern Fujian, which is called the museum of ancient buildings in southern Fujian. It is well-known and has many tourists. In 2000, it was listed as the fifth batch of national cultural relics protection units.

Since 20 18 10, I have accompanied my relatives and friends to visit the ancient houses in Cai for many times. Every time I came, I was in a hurry and took a quick look, but every time I found something new and felt something new.

The day before yesterday, I once again accompanied my relatives and friends to visit as a host. The fellow travelers are all from southern Fujian, and they are familiar with the ancient Chinese buildings in southern Fujian, so they feel nothing particularly novel. In addition to enjoying wood carving, brick carving, stone carving and clay sculpture, we are also attracted by poetry couplets and calligraphy of ancient buildings. We were fascinated by a couplet on both sides of the porch, and several friends enjoyed it together and analyzed the doubts.

? Take home as home, be self-righteous, love virtuous, benevolent, vulgar, brag and read.

? Smart people on earth are outstanding in this name. Winning this field will allow Britain and Yi Shi to be crowned.

There are no punctuation marks in couplets, so many tourists break sentences, which becomes a problem. They read it several times, and it was very smooth. They left without understanding it. The words "valve reading" and "hairpin" are relatively uncommon, and the commentator is vague in his explanation.

Wu, a native of Nan 'an, was a juren in the 15th year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty, and served as an Oracle in Fuqing.

The main idea of couplets is: families are self-sufficient and have a rich life, and the houses they build naturally pursue gorgeous and colorful. Fortunately, the host can be kind and charitable. The master regards "virtuous" as a family heirloom, instead of boasting that his family is a bureaucratic family with outstanding achievements like a secular person. Being kind to others and being rich but not arrogant are Confucian values advocated by Confucius.

There is a saying in Minnan dialect: the rich live in the blessed land, and the blessed live in the blessed land. Blessed Lord has won the treasure of this famous area, and future generations will be able to come forth in large numbers and shine brilliantly from generation to generation. Yi Shi means generation after generation, generation after generation. Hey, zān? In ancient times, the crowns of Yang's dignitaries were different because of their families.

The couplet praised the master's righteous act of spreading benevolence, and at the same time placed high hopes on his descendants: I hope they can produce talents and honor their ancestors.

As another couplet of Cai's ancient folk houses expresses:

? Mianzude, a loyal heirloom.

? Poetry and calligraphy have inherited Sun Mou from generation to generation.

This couplet means "faithfulness is handed down from generation to generation, and poetry and books remain forever." Clans should flourish, and future generations should continue the virtues of their ancestors and inherit their poems and songs. This is the heartfelt words of the older generation and the deep hope of the older generation. Confucian couplets are not full of handwriting, but vivid; Not as cold as ice, but quietly passed down from generation to generation with the temperature.

Another couplet of Cai's ancient residence is also worth savoring:

Standing on a rock is like a pine needle on a rock. It takes thousands of years to build a building.

Self-examination is like jade, which can grind dozens of pieces of sand and stones, make jade seals and collect temple corridors.

If you want to be a pillar, you have to go through thousands of years of wind, frost, rain and snow. I can't bear to be lonely and pamper myself, and I can't grow a pillar in the greenhouse. To present the beauty of architecture, we must first bear the weight of the building. Don't be eager for quick success.

"Jade is not cut, it is not a tool." Self-cultivation needs constant tempering. Jade must be polished before it can become a jade seal and a treasure of halls and corridors; People, in order to achieve a career and get social recognition, must go through hard work and go through the process of tempering.

This couplet describes the hardships of entrepreneurs and the hardships of entrepreneurs' success. Difficulties and hardships, Yucheng. The couplet also says entrepreneurs' earnest teachings and earnest entrustment to future generations: Don't aim too high, don't aim too high. We should be down-to-earth, persevere, forge ahead in the storm, and develop and achieve our cause in constant struggle. Couplets are concise and profound. Couplets, like family precepts, constantly encourage and spur future generations to inherit the virtues of their ancestors and forge ahead.

There is also a couplet in the ancient house of Cai's family, "The family has been happy for nearly a thousand years, and the ancestors stayed for five years." The "Millennium House" refers to "a temple" near Cai's former residence. "Five Marie Laure Gigon" is a metaphor for the breadth and depth of Zude's shadow. The geographical location is superior, and Zude Zonggong has been blessed continuously. Having such ancestors is a blessing and a pressure for future generations. How to carry forward the work of our ancestors is the eternal motive force for future generations to struggle constantly.

May the descendants of Cai's ancient dwellings say, "The book is in the east wall and the book is in the west garden;" South China Qiushui, Beiyuan Chunshan. " Both sides meet the source, and the east becomes the west.
