In Dali calligraphy and painting circles, as long as Mr. Ma is mentioned, everyone knows it. However, after the versatile calligrapher died on March 2, 2006, many people collected the ink written by Mr. Ma before his death!

As early as twenty years ago, I heard that in the spring of 1942, the famous painter Xu Beihong had an unforgettable exchange with the young horse when he traveled to Dali, and read Mr. Ma's calligraphy and poetry works in relevant newspapers and periodicals. It's a pity that I have lived in the countryside for more than ten years and have no chance to meet and communicate with Teacher Ma. But I have always had a desire to visit this respected calligrapher. One afternoon in the early spring of 2003, with the help of my friends, I finally met Mr. Ma, whom I have heard so much about.

In an old and quiet room on Zhengyang Street in Xiaguan, I saw an old man having dinner with his wife. After dinner, the old man talked to us very warmly and friendly. Mr. Ma is broad-minded, modest and simple, and has no airs. During the conversation, I deeply felt that Mr. Ma, who is over 90 years old, likes young people very much. I heard that he also volunteered to tutor many painting and calligraphy lovers. In the old house blackened by fireworks, it seems that there is a strong fragrance of calligraphy, which will last for a long time.

After we talked with Mr. Ma for more than an hour, he led us into the "small room" with books hanging on the wall upstairs and personally presented me with such a picture:

"Pine has ambition, plum has pride, bamboo has beauty, chrysanthemum has frost buds, everything is magnificent, and it has been cold for years but not withered."

After writing, Mr. Ma skillfully took out the big seal, stamped the seal of "Sun, Moon and Glory" on the upper right of the work, and then stamped the words "What Ma did after 1990" and "Li Sheng Mo Yue". Words and seals are chic and complement each other. Now, whenever I see this precious ink, a weather-beaten old man is still full of optimism about life and the virtue of helping others, which vividly flashes in front of me and makes me remember the artist's demeanor more!
