He was born in a scholarly family in Haiyan County, Zhejiang Province. Zhang Zhouruo, a primary school teacher, gave him the earliest enlightenment of family learning, and his mother, who is good at embroidery and paper-cutting, gave full play to his painting talent. Zhang Leping, who loved painting since childhood, became an apprentice in Yongyuan Woodworking in the suburbs of Shanghai after graduating from primary school. During this period, with the support of Muhang's boss who is good at calligraphy, his painting skills have a certain foundation.
Most of his works are created in the form of satirical cartoons. With Zhang Leping's brushwork, we can see the sufferings of people's lives and the resistance of ordinary people to oppression reflected by a series of characters such as San Mao.
Later, animation was made into cartoons and movies.
