Looking far into the mountains and rivers, the creative background

Li Kuchan, formerly known as Li Ying and Li Yingjie, also known as Li Gong, is an outstanding freehand flower and bird painter, calligrapher and people's art educator in my country. Professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, director of the Chinese Artists Association, and member of the Board of Directors of the Chinese Painting Research Institute. Li Kuchan is good at freehand flower and bird painting, drawing on the techniques of Shi Tao, Bada Shanren, Yangzhou School, Wu Changshuo, Qi Baishi and other predecessors. His brushwork is magnificent, majestic and has his own style. He blends Chinese and Western techniques into one furnace, and has a profound artistic conception. The unique style of vertical and horizontal, concise and clear images has established a new style of Chinese freehand flower and bird painting.

This painting "Viewing the Majestic Mountains and Rivers from afar" was created in 1979 (Jiwei). It shows two mighty eagles perched on a towering cliff. The goshawk's beak is like five handles. The sharp ax seemed to flash with a cold light after being dyed with a light cyan color. The eagle's sharp talons are like steel hooks clinging to the cliff rocks. The five eagles are covered in thick black, like statues made of steel. The few blank spaces left on their wings add a lot of agility and nature to these "statues".
