Si Kongtu was the late Tang poetry critic who emphasized the meaning beyond rhyme and taste.
Si Kongtu (837-97) was a poet and poetics critic in the late Tang Dynasty. His main achievement is poetry criticism, including Twenty-four Poems, which divides the artistic style of poetry into twenty-four types, such as bold, implicit, unique, natural and refined, and emphasizes the meaning beyond rhyme and taste, which has a far-reaching impact on literary criticism and creation in later generations.
"the meaning beyond rhyme" and "the meaning beyond taste", that is to say, a good poem will have a kind of charm and lasting appeal, which can make people realize the aesthetic feeling with endless aftertaste, thus arousing readers' * * * *, and the so-called "endless words and endless meanings" is also true.
Sikong Tu's aesthetic thought
Sikong Tu's aesthetic thought contains many levels. In his representative aesthetic work "Twenty-four Poems", there are not only the explanations of various styles, but also the exploration of creative methods and the fans of the poet's self-cultivation. These also have a strong guiding role and reference significance for contemporary aesthetics.
Sikong Tu's artistic style embodies various styles developed from two basic styles of beauty: masculine and feminine. The Summary of the General Catalogue of the Four Treasures says that it "lists all kinds of styles, but does not focus on one style", and Xu Yinfang also said in his postscript that "its teachers are poems, and the portal is very wide and eclectic".
However, the greatest contribution of Shi Pin to the theory of artistic style is that it has shifted from a general discussion of literary language style to a study of literary artistic conception style. In the Tang Dynasty, the theory of poetry and prose began to be divided, and the style theory in poetry theory gradually turned to the artistic conception style of poetry, which can be clearly seen in Jiao Ran's 19-character style theory, while Shi Pin is a pure poetic artistic conception style theory. This is very different from Liu Xie.
