Dante lived in medieval Italy, and his creations marked the transition from feudalism to the capitalist era.

He was born in Florence in late May 1265. He claimed to be a descendant of the ancient Romans and was born in a small aristocracy in the city. His great-great-grandfather Cachaguida participated in the Second Crusade (1147-1149) with Holy Roman Emperor Conrad III, was named a knight, and died in the Holy Land. Dante was fond of learning and thinking when he was a boy.
