Appreciation of Eight Poems
This poem was written by the poet when he first arrived in Kuizhou, and it was written in the first year of Dali (766). "Eight-array map" refers to the array map of military drills and operations composed of eight formations: sky, earth, wind, cloud, dragon, tiger, bird and snake. This is Zhuge Liang's creation, which embodies his outstanding military talent. The poet praised Zhuge Liang's achievements, especially the outstanding military value of his Eight Arrays, and sympathized with Zhuge Liang's failure to complete the great cause of reunification.
