This poem was written in August (756) from Tang Suzong to An Deyu. Du Fu was taken to Chang 'an by Anshi rebels and spent more than half a year as a prisoner. At this time, Chang 'an was devastated and desolate, but his family reunited after a long separation, and the poet's pain in his home country was even stronger.
It is reported that in the last years of Tianbao, the rebels captured Xi 'an and Luoyang, and captured the civil military commanders of the imperial court everywhere, as well as eunuchs, ladies-in-waiting, musicians and cavalry. Every time hundreds of people are arrested, they are closely guarded with weapons and sent to Luoyang. Some even fled to the valley, but in the end they were hunted down and persecuted, wearing official hats and uniforms.
An Lushan paid special attention to the musicians and was anxious to visit them. Within ten days, he caught hundreds of apprentices in the pear garden. Thieves then held a big party in Ningbichi, hosted dozens of officials appointed by the rebel army, and displayed a large number of rare treasures collected by the emperor, which were listed back and forth. After the music was finished, the original musicians in the pear garden sighed unconsciously, looked at each other and shed tears.
