English exaggeration

In Chinese, in order to make the article more beautiful and appealing, the author will use some rhetorical devices to write.

By the same token, rhetoric can be used reasonably in the writing of English novels, poems and plays, thus enriching the language level and making the expression more vivid.

Today, American English Institute (AAE) will analyze six commonly used figures of speech in English, so that everyone can understand the usage rules of figures of speech and improve their ability to analyze the expression skills of English articles.

1. Simile Simile /sml/

Simile is to compare different things with * * *. It shows that the ontological thing is a figurative thing of "image", and there are obvious metaphors between the ontological thing and the figurative thing, such as image, such as, as if, as if, as if through, as if, like, similar and like.

Example 1: phrase

Spend money like water.

As hard as a stone.

Busy as a bee

As clear as crystal.

Example 2: Sentences

He drives as if he were possessed by the devil.

He drives like a madman.

It has long leaves, swaying in the wind, like slender fingers touching something.

Its long leaves are swaying in the wind, as if stretching out slender fingers to touch something.

In fact, simile can be used not only in literary works, but also in scientific and technological works, to concretize abstract things and make abstruse truths easy to understand.

Example:

Bacteria are so small that a common type of circular bacteria is about 1/25000 inches in diameter. When these bacteria are magnified 1 0,000 times, they look as big as the tip of a pencil.

Bacteria are very small, and a common round bacteria is only about 1/25000 inches in diameter. This bacterium is magnified 1000 times and looks as big as the tip of a pencil.

Cell enlargement

2. Metaphor/Metaphor Metaphor /mtf/

Metaphor/metaphor refers to using one thing to imply another thing according to some * * * characteristics of two things. There is no obvious metaphor between ontology and vehicle, but be is often used as a connection. Be can also be understood as a metaphor, and sometimes words such as become and turn into are used, meaning to make an analogy in the dark.

Plowing sand is futile.

In a dilemma between the devil and the deep sea
