The Origin and Historical Evolution of Poetry

Poetry originated from many natural phenomena, such as wind, electricity, thunder and rain, which primitive humans could not understand, so it was attributed to the gods. Primitive humans sang and danced to the gods out of awe, expressing people's expectations-good weather, abundant crops and so on. This is the origin of poetry.

The evolution of poetry: The Book of Songs → Songs of Chu → Yuefu Poems of Han Dynasty → Folk Songs of Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties (represented by Jian 'an Seven Sons) → Tang Poems → Song Poems → Yuan Songs → Poems of Ming and Qing Dynasties → Modern Poems and New Poems.

There are many ways to express poetry. The traditional way of expression that was first popular in China and is still often used today is "Fu, Bi and Xing". "Preface to Mao Poetry" said: "Therefore, poetry has six meanings: one is wind, the other is fu, the third is comparison, the fourth is pride, the fifth is elegance and the sixth is fu." In the meantime, there is a quatrain called: "Three lights, the sun, the moon and the stars, and four poems are elegant."

In the six meanings, "style, elegance and praise" refers to the types of poems in the Book of Songs, and "Fu, Bi and Xing" are the expressions in poems.

This is divided according to the expression of the content of the work. Narrative poem: There are relatively complete story lines and characters in the poem, which are usually expressed by the poet's passionate singing.

Epic, story poem and poetic novel all belong to this category. Ancient Greek Homer's epics such as Heriat and Odyssey; China poet Li Ji's Wang Gui and Li Xiangxiang and other story poems; Don Juan by British poet Byron and yevgeni onegin by Russian poet Pushkin.

Lyrics: mainly reflect social life by directly expressing the poet's thoughts and feelings, and do not require complete stories and characters. Such as love songs, carols, elegies, elegies, pastoral songs, satirical poems, etc. Take modern poetry as an example. If the love life of Wang Guozhen, a famous poet, is not well-off, there are still many such works, so I won't list them one by one.
