The last emperor of China was almost Puyi’s cousin

As we all know, Emperor Guangxu had no heir, and he had to choose a suitable person from the royal family behind him to be the dragon throne. Of course, the suitability here is not necessarily the suitability of ability and age, but the result of a balance between all parties.

In 1908, Guangxu was critically ill and childless, so it was urgent to establish a crown prince. At this time, in addition to the three-year-old Puyi, there was also a thirteen-year-old prince. But in the end, the dying Cixi did not choose this young prince, but missed the throne.

This little prince is the great-grandson of Daoguang and the grandson of Prince Gong Yixin. He is Pu Xinshe, Pu Yi's cousin. Puyi's father Zaifeng and Guangxu were brothers. Although they are both from royal families, Pu Yi's blood relationship is closer, which is one of the reasons why he did not choose Pu Xinshe.

Pu Xinshe, whose original name was Aixinjueluo Puru, was a genius. He knows all the classics, calligraphy, poetry, horse riding and archery, etc. He went to college at the age of 15, studied abroad at the age of 18, and obtained two doctorates.

These are still clouds. What's more, he taught himself to paint without a teacher. Later, he was as famous as Zhang Daqian and was known as "Nan Zhang Pu Bei". He also collaborated with Zhang Daqian on dozens of works such as "Panasonic Gao Shi Tu" and "Autumn Intentions". He once served as a professor of traditional Chinese painting at the National Peking Art College. But painting is just a hobby for him. He never admitted that he was a painter.

Puyi later became the "emperor" of the puppet Manchukuo and urged his cousin to go to the Northeast for a meeting. Pu Xinshe refused and wrote a poem "Chen Pian" to satirize Pu Yi, "If the nine halls are not erected, the main line will not be continued. If you do not sacrifice its ghosts, do not enshrine its new moon." I wonder how Puyi felt after watching it?

In 1949, Pu Xinshe moved to Taiwan Province. Later, Song Meiling wanted to learn painting from him, but he refused. But Soong Meiling could only switch to Huang Junbi. I finally understand why Song Meiling's painting skills are so good. If Pu Xinshe had accepted this apprentice at that time, Soong Meiling's paintings would have had a different flavor.

In 1968, Pu Xinshe died of illness in Taiwan. Fortunately, Pu Xinshe did not become emperor. Compared with Puyi who became the emperor, his life value stood at different levels.
