The creation of Ode to the Red Flag originated from a party group meeting of Shanghai Musicians Association in February 1965. He Lvting, Ding Shande, Meng Bo, Huang Yijun, Qu Wei and Lv Qiming all decided that Lv Qiming, the youngest and experienced composer, would compose the orchestral work Ode to the Red Flag.
Although time was tight and the task was heavy, Lv Qiming, who was full of affection for the new China, resolutely accepted this arduous task.
