Appreciation of Rain Lane

Rain Lane is a famous work by Dai Wangshu. Ye Shengtao, the editor-in-chief of Novel Monthly at that time, received this poem, saying that it opened a new era for the bottom syllable of the new poem, and Dai Wangshu was therefore named "Poet in Rain Lane". This poem wanders in Changyu Lane in the south of the Yangtze River, waiting for a better girl. Maybe the girl's home is at the end of the rainy lane, or she must go through this alley when she comes home. Winter goes and spring comes, and day after day, "I" walk through the alley again. Apart from the sound of the oil-paper umbrella in the spring rain, the rain lane looks so lonely and sad. What is even more touching is the melancholy of "I", which is charming, noble and aloof. The poet's metaphor for girls with lilacs is obviously meaningful. In China's ancient poems, there are many famous lines singing about lilacs: "Lilacs are sad in the rain", "Lilacs are weak, but the branches are still falling", "Bananas are sad in the spring breeze" and so on. Lilacs bloom in mid-spring, and poets often hurt spring when facing lilacs, saying lilacs are troubles. Lilacs are white or purple, and the color is not frivolous, so they often win the favor of poets who lead an honest and clean life. In a word, lilac is a trinity symbol of beauty, purity and sadness, but lilac is good, but it is easy to fade. A girl like Lilac, that is, a girl with fragile dreams, is afraid that her sadness is indispensable? In the long-term expectation of "I", the girl finally came: "She approached silently" and "liked me"-it seemed that two hearts were close to understanding each other, but in the end they passed by, which made me disappointed and took a breath, and the distance between them widened again. Both vagrants suffer from the same depression, so they are in the same boat; But because of the same symptoms, I couldn't get back to each other and had to break up. That's how they hesitate and pursue in hesitation, pursue ...

Judging from the deeper symbolic significance of the poem, the image of the girl in this poem is actually the poet's ideal. His pursuit of imitation is to find a girl-ideal. The girl appeared, but her footsteps, her color, together with her sigh and melancholy, all have an elusive symbolic meaning-persistent pursuit but unable to grasp. In this way, the poet expressed his belief in pursuing a better ideal, which was futile and lonely. In Rain Lane, the image of the girl is tragic; The image of the lyric hero, the wanderer (the lonely wanderer image runs through all Dai Wangshu's works) is also tragic. His pursuit is so noble, with idealized colors, and the girl he expects is beautiful in heart and charming in appearance. However, such girls are really hard to find. Therefore, in the face of idealistic expectations, he is always confused and has a tragic temperament.

Dai Wangshu is familiar with the works of French poet Wei Erlun. As for his sentimental temperament, he is also close to Wei Erlun. Wei Erlun's Song Without Words expresses the depressed mood and mental state of the intellectuals who are at a loss after the failure of the Paris Commune, and its keynote is the tragic consciousness that the poet's ideal is out of touch with the dirty life around him. This poem by Dai Wangshu shows the ideal of soaring passionately from the May 4th Movement and the tragic feelings of being divorced from the reality of the 1925- 1927 Great Revolution submerged in a pool of blood. Although his poems are not poems of resistance and fighting, they are not poems of humiliation and patience. The tragic themes of man and ideal, neurotic man and unattainable ideal contain the characteristics of the times.

Rain Lane is a lyric poem that emphasizes symbols and hints. Dai Wangshu put his feelings first, but he tried to hide them as much as possible by hinting, making them hazy and trying to cover up the truth. Although Rain Lane also has the feeling of symbolism, it does not have some mysterious significance of symbolism. Understandably, with sincere feelings as the backbone, the content is classical, with little overhead feelings, extravagance but not hypocrisy, gorgeous and statutes. We speculate that the "truth" of the poem Rain Lane hidden in "imagination" may be an emotional experience of the poet, and this emotional experience in life has become the backbone of this poem. The poem probably still retains some sense of tragedy and loneliness in Rain Lane, which is implied by the rendering of the long and lonely rain lane, the decaying fence, the cold and sad drizzle and the description of the wandering girl's expectation for lilacs. Everything is not clear, not clear, but we understand and feel it. It is precisely because the poet does not limit the meaning of poetry to one level that we learn more from poetry.

As Ye Shengtao said, Rain Lane has also made outstanding achievements in musicality. The whole poem consists of seven sections, each with six lines. Each line has different lengths, complicated rhyming positions, common initials overlapping, and strange sentence patterns, which makes the whole poem reverberate with deep and beautiful melodies and subtly and vividly implies the poet's deep and confused mood. reading skills

This paper deeply appreciates Rain Lane from the poet's temperament, symbolism and musicality, and provides another "perspective" here.

Dai Wangshu's famous work Rain Lane was written after Chiang Kai-shek launched the "April 12th" counter-revolutionary coup, when he was hiding in Shi Zhecun's hometown Songjiang. Although this poem is literally about how to hope to meet a girl like Lilac, it is not difficult for the author who knows the background of the times to realize that this is a combination of love emotion and political emotion, not just as a love song. This is the beginning of his political lyric poetry, which initially shows the basic characteristics of his poems since then: the daily life emotion and political emotion penetrate each other and blend into one.
