Metaphor is also an ability.

The weekly notes that should have been completed the day before yesterday were interrupted by a high fever on a business trip for two days, and nucleic acid was measured in a hurry. Fortunately, I was safe and sound. I came back from my fever and rested for a while to write this week's weekly diary. The topic I want to talk about this week is metaphor. This topic is too extensive and profound in literature, so I don't want to dabble too much. I mainly want to talk about its application in our work and what good metaphors can be preserved.

1. The ability of analogy is induction and deduction.

In the past three years, I found that most of my colleagues around me were divided into three categories. One is the same level. He knows what you know and he doesn't know what you don't know. The second category is high-level, that is, they can always summarize the main points or problems to you, hit the essence of the problem directly, and even tell you what to do. The third category is some senior managers who can always give you a vivid description of the process when you say a word. The first thing we are familiar with most of the time is ourselves. Secondly, we can say that they have strong metacognitive ability, similar to the first principle, but the third thing I admire most is that they can explain a series of behaviors to you with a metaphor and can distinguish right from wrong.

? Before we begin, let's enjoy some wonderful metaphors in the literary world.

1. Our pot is sometimes as clean as a decent widow. -Lao She's "Crescent Moon"

2. Death is like water disappearing into water. -Joerg Luis Borges "Another Death"

If man is an animal, money is an animal's courage. -Lao She's "Crescent Moon"

Some people's faces are as ugly as unjust cases. Mu Xin

Honest people's malice is like gravel in rice or unclean thorns in boneless fish fillets, which will give people an unexpected pain. -Qian Zhongshu

6. The black-rimmed glasses on Mr. Li's face are gone, and his big white eyes are like shelled boiled eggs. -Qian Zhongshu

7. What is redundancy? Cotton-padded jacket in summer, cattail leaf fan in winter, and your hospitality after I was cold. Lilian Lee

8. If there is a paradise, it should look like a library. -Borges

I watched myself for a long time in the evening, but I don't want to discuss this topic, because once you open the classic metaphors in the literary world, those plays, novels and poems, you will find that even the wonderful metaphorical sentences will look bleak compared with the imagination of the authors in literary works. "Some people's faces are as ugly as unjust cases." Let you get the message, but you can't describe this feeling in words. Experienced estimates can't be written. Then why did I bite the bullet and start writing this topic? Because I am really stupid in this respect, in other words, I still have the potential to improve, so I want to try to understand and digest, and then summarize the good workplace metaphors I have seen and continue to update them into a material library.

In fact, the essence of metaphor is induction and deduction. We say that the understanding of basic concepts is ontology and carrier. Your original thing is ontology, and you use a metaphor to describe this thing, which is vehicle. But we say that there is a bridge missing. This bridge is your induction of ontology and the basis of your deduction of vehicles. For example, I recently saw a sentence "six fingers itch" in the internal work forum. What does this mean? The business unit of a waterway did not use a system by itself according to the unified planning, resulting in repeated waste of resources. This sentence is the founder's evaluation: "Say you lead six fingers to tickle-one more thing." I thought it was very interesting when I watched it, and some even wanted to laugh, but when I looked back, I could only read one sentence silently.

So what kind of metaphor will make people feel amazing? Let's first understand the classification of metaphor. The author forcibly classifies it into four dichotomies by self-understanding. The longitudinal axis is dynamic and static, one is static and the other is dynamic. Static is a point, an action, a noun and an adjective. In short, it is a single-point metaphor, and dynamics are often aimed at a fragment, a process, a change and so on. The horizontal axis is imaginary and real. What is virtual? It is a metaphysical thing, such as personality, such as soul, such as spirit. What is this? It's something in the material world.

? You will find that if you do math problems, there are four metaphors for the fourth power of 2, but often those metaphors that teach people directly are those that have made some changes between sports and reality. For example, "Your face is like a red apple", which is a static entity. However, if you say that your face is like an unjust case, you will find that your brain has made up a story, which is still a reality, but it imagines the dynamic process as a metaphor and makes your brain make up a sense of the picture. For example, your clean pot is compared with a decent widow, which means comparing the virtual with the real, and comparing the widow's clean with the clean pot.

So even with the classification of reality and movement, why can't some metaphors be amazing? There is actually a third axis here, which is relevance. The author didn't put it on, just because his concept was too broad. The farther the correlation is, the more people will be surprised to think of it. Hegel once said: "In order to avoid the ordinary, we should try to find out the relevant characteristics in seemingly nondescript objects, so as to combine the farthest things unexpectedly." In fact, this is the reason. Let's think about Durex's advertisement in China. Isn't that why? Sex is the most obscure topic, but if it is released through concrete metaphors such as shape, color, date, model and advertising copy, its contrast effect will be much better than that of normal advertisements. For another example, we say, "The viciousness of an honest man is like sand in rice." This metaphor makes people feel very powerful. Ontology is an honest man's malice and an empty figure, but metaphor is really a real thing. Although the description is static, as the attribute becomes the gravel in the rice, the picture suddenly has a moving imagination, which is far from the characters, but it is true. Therefore, if you want to use metaphor subtly, you must have a sense of contrast, a sense of picture, and a vivid and lifelike image.

? 2. I saw the ordinary vehicle warehouse.

If the metaphor of literary works in the previous paragraph comes from the sky, then the latter paragraph comes from the ground, because after all, we are not born and not very hard writers, so we can only learn and imitate from the basics, but at least we should know. Because the author is also a fool, I decided to spend some time sorting out the good ontological and metaphorical cases I saw at work before. I put some storage boxes in the second half of this article and then update them when new cases come in.
