1950, the art troupe where Meiliqi Ge was located went to Beijing with the Inner Mongolia delegation to present a gift and was received by Chairman Mao. After he came back, he wrote a poem "Toast to Chairman Mao" and sent it to People's Daily. Soon, this poem was published in People's Daily and then circulated in China. 1956, this poem was compiled into the primary school Chinese textbook. The song "Rising Sun on the Grassland" (melody) was composed on 1952 and premiered in the concert of students' works of the Central Conservatory of Music. Based on the folk tunes of Inner Mongolia, the song has a broad melody and a strong national style and local color. Central Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Shandong Conservatory of Music and many other universities have included this song in vocal music textbooks.
1977 and 200 1 year, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region held two large-scale cultural performances to celebrate the 30th anniversary and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the autonomous region. It has been enduring for more than 50 years and has become the most representative song to praise and publicize Inner Mongolia. This work has also been selected as one of the "20th Century China Music Classics".
