When talking about Jinan, Jingzhou, Hubei Province, he claimed to be a descendant of the ancient emperor Levin. His ancestor Qu Xian was sealed in Qu Di, because Qu was his surname.

In his early years, Qu Yuan was deeply trusted by Chu Huaiwang and had the reputation of "the first person in Chu Ci". He is practicing medicine, often discussing state affairs with him, advocating the unification of Chu and Qi, and repeatedly opposing making friends with Qin.

After Zhao Haoqi, the king of Qin, detained Chu Huaiwang, Qu Yuan continued to assist the king of Chu. Six years ago, King Xiang of Chu planned to make peace with Qin in 293. Qu Yuan rebuked King Xiang of Chu and Zilan, and King Xiang of Chu was furious. Qu Yuan was expelled from the capital of Chu and exiled to the more remote Jiangnan area for eighteen years.

Twenty-one years before Qing Xiang, the king of Chu, in 278, Qu Yuan drowned in the Miluo River, and later generations ate zongzi on the Dragon Boat Festival to commemorate Qu Yuan.
