Appreciation of Crying Xuancheng for Good Brewing
Original: Old spring should be brewed in Jizuo Huangquan. There is no dawn at night. Who are you selling wine to?
Appreciation: This is Li Bai's quatrain to pay tribute to his friends. There are two versions handed down, one is called "Crying Xuancheng for Good Brewing" and the other is called "Tidai Old Hotel". The two winemakers have different surnames and slightly different words, but the content is basically the same. The text quoted here is subject to the previous edition.
The old man who made wine passed away, which aroused the poet's deep regret and nostalgia. The poet imagined the life of the old brewer after his death. The first sentence "Chaucer is in the grave", the grave was originally the place where people died and were buried, but according to the poet's style, Chaucer died in the grave as if he were moving, meaning that he was dead and seemed to be alive. The second sentence is "Old Spring should be brewed", that is to say, since he was able to brew old spring wine for Li Bai before his death, he should still be exerting his unique skills and continuing to brew mellow wine now in the underworld. This seems to be an absurd assumption of the poet, but it is so serious and sad that readers can easily accept it emotionally and feel that this fantasy is in line with human feelings.
Then two sentences: "Who will the wine be sold to when there is no dawn at night?" ? "The poet thought further along the previous train of thought:" Kizo is still doing his old job in the grave, but life and death are different. How can I invite Li Bai to drink his wine? " The poet was even sadder at the thought of this. In order to express this strong sadness, he asked in a rhetorical sentence, "Master! You went to the dark world like the night, and I, Li Bai, am still alive. Who will you sell Chen Nianchun wine to? "According to the meaning of these two poems, it seems that Jizuo lived for Li Bai, and the wine he brewed was only appreciated by Li Bai. This idea is even more unreasonable, but it shows that the poet and Ji Chui have deep feelings at ordinary times and are rare bosom friends. Now that life and death are separated, the poet feels very sad.
Selling wine and making wine were the most common contacts between Li Bai and Jizuo. However, this seemingly ordinary incident is the most memorable and easily causes the poet's sadness. Poets are good at grasping this point and giving it a romantic color. His feelings are sincere, natural and touching.
