Hope (prose poem)? Lu Xun
My heart is very lonely. However, my heart is safe; There is no love or hate, no sorrow or joy, no color or sound. I'm probably old. My hair is already pale, isn't it obvious? My hands are shaking, isn't it obvious? Then my soul's hands must be shaking and my hair must be pale. However, this was many years ago.
Before that, my heart was full of bloody songs: blood and iron, flame and poison, recovery and revenge. And suddenly these are empty, but sometimes they are deliberately filled with helpless self-deception hopes. Hope, hope, use this shield of hope to resist the dark night in emptiness, although it is still the dark night in emptiness behind the shield. However, this is the case, which has exhausted my youth one after another.
didn't I know my youth was gone earlier? But I think that the youth outside is fixed in: stars, moonlight, stiff butterflies, dark flowers, ominous words of owls, crying blood of cuckoos, faint laughter and dancing of love. ..... Although it is sad and ethereal youth, it is youth after all. But why is it so lonely now? Is it that even the youth outside the body has passed away, and the youth in the world is getting older?
I'll have to eat the empty night by myself. I put down the shield of hope, and I heard the song of "hope" by Petofi Sandor(1823-49): What is hope? A prostitute: she bewitched everyone and gave everything to them; She will abandon you when you have sacrificed a lot of precious things-your youth.
This great lyric poet, a Hungarian patriot, died on the spear point of Kosak soldiers for his motherland for 75 years. It's sad to die, but what's even sadder is that his poems have not died yet. But, what a miserable life! As brave as Petofi, I finally stopped at night and looked back at the vast East.
He said: Despair is vain, just like hope. If I have to drag out an ignoble existence in this "illusion", I will still seek the sad and ethereal youth that passed away, but I might as well be outside my body. Because if the youth outside my body disappears, the twilight inside my body will wither. However, there are no stars and moonlight now, and there are no frozen butterflies, so that the smile is slim and the love dances. However, the young people are safe.
I have to come to the empty night by myself. Even if I can't find my youth outside, I have to throw away my old age by myself. But where is the night? Now there are no stars, no moonlight and no faint laughter and dancing of love; The young people are safe, but there is no real night in front of me. Despair is vain, just like hope!
Appreciation on January 1st, 1925
The author first felt empty because of the exhaustion and aging of life and the passing of youth, and then resisted the emptiness and the dark night with hope (youth and youth outside), but he felt that hope was also vain, so he put down the shield of hope, and deconstructed despair with the same thinking mode as deconstructing hope, thus denying complete despair and leaving hope for himself.
I found that there was no dark night, and I hesitated repeatedly to confirm that despair was false. Although I was not very optimistic, I still had doubts. Although I still had a strong sense of nothingness and darkness, at least I didn't completely despair. I still reserved a little hope for myself, that is, darkness and nothingness may not be real, and hope may not be false.
the repeated appearance of the word "however" shows the author's hesitation and hesitation, and he can never find hope and dependence. In fact, the author is trying to call back his youth and passion, get rid of the twilight and nothingness, and find the hope and happiness of life in despair and loneliness after too many battles and shouts.
But after repeated attempts, I still can't find external hope and salvation, and I still can't face the empty, desperate and dark situation. I have to rely on the inner strength of life to sing the song of triumph with a gesture of "holding on is everything".
Extended information:
In fact, the best interpretation of this text is Mr. Lu Xun's own words: this is specially written for the "now" disappointing and decadent young people. Although Hope is about the author's disappointment and even despair, it also writes about hope: "Despair is vain, just like hope", which is about hope.
Hope will not give us everything, but despair will definitely make us lose everything. When we want to end everything with despair, it is at the cost of losing everything; Just as we hope to give us everything and are finally disappointed, it is all vain. It is better to embrace hope than to put yourself in a vain place of despair.
Although hope will inevitably bring us disappointment, it seems equally illusory. But hope will also bring us a bright future, if we don't give up hope in our hearts. Therefore, for the sake of my "youth outside", I can't give up my "false" "hope".
