Chen Qiu is a poem in The Book of Songs, the first collection of poems in ancient China. This poem may describe a man's love for a witch dancer and reflect the cultural connotation of projecting uncontrollable emotions into the externalized form of the essence of life. There are three main opinions about Chen Qiu's background. One is to stab Chen Yougong. Mao's Preface to Poetry, Confucius' Book and Yan Gan's Preface to Poetry all think that "the son is responsible for the public". Chen Yougong is dissolute, lewd, extravagant, immoral and hated by people, so he is stabbed with poems.
The second is to stab Chen Hao's witchcraft theory. Hao Yixing's "Shi Wen" and Wei Yuan's "Shigu Wei" both hold this view, arguing that Chen Zhixian's wife is of noble birth and can sing and dance well, and it has become a custom for the people to carry on the family line. This poem really stabbed the common people in Chen's works.
