From: Autumn Night by Du Mu in Tang Dynasty
Original text:
In the autumn night, candlelight reflected the screen, and Fan slapped the fireflies with his hand.
The stone steps at night are as cold as cold water, sitting and staring at the cowherd and the weaver girl.
Translation:
In early autumn, candlelight flickered in the room, and the color screen in the corner was stained with a cool color. Ladies in light clothes are chasing fireflies outside with a small round fan in their hands. As the night grew darker and colder, she came to the grass beside the steps of the palace, lay down on her side and looked up at the cowherd and weaver girl on both sides of the galaxy.
Extended data:
This is a poem about palace grievances. By describing the cold and lonely environment, the poet hinted at the lonely fate of young girls and showed their lonely feelings and bitterness. There is not a word "worry" in the whole article, but it is full of sadness and is intended to be subtle and euphemistic.
This poem is also ingenious in conception, concise and fluent in language, graceful in emotion and strong in artistic appeal, which can quite represent Du Mu's artistic achievements. From the point of view of form and structure, the whole poem combines the description of objects and scenery with narrative lyricism, showing a smart posture and being quite touching. The former aims to create an atmosphere for the latter, and the latter aims to standardize the meaning of the former, and the two are integrated.
