Historical Allusions of Hutuo River

The Hutuo River Embankment, the Battle of Hutuo River, and the Hutuo Agreement.

1. Hutuo River Embankment: During the Tang Dynasty, in order to solve floods in the north, the great calligrapher Yan Zhenqing personally presided over the construction of the Hutuo River Embankment. This was also a major event in the history of Chinese water conservancy.

2. Battle of Hutuo River: In 1937, Japanese invaders launched a large-scale attack in Shanxi with the intention of occupying Taiyuan. Under the command of Zhu De, the then commander-in-chief of the Eighth Route Army, the Eighth Route Army launched a fierce battle with the enemy on the banks of the Hutuo River. This battle was hailed as an important battle in China's Anti-Japanese War and laid the foundation for China's victory in the Anti-Japanese War.

3. Hutuo Agreement: During the conflict between Chu and Han, Liu Bang and Xiang Yu were at loggerheads at the Hutuo River. Although the Han army was large in number, its morale was low, while the Chu army led by Xiang Yu was small in number but had high morale. Under this situation, Liu Bang's counselor Chen Ping suggested sending an envoy to negotiate peace with Xiang Yu, and eventually the two parties reached an agreement, known in history as the Hutuo Treaty.
