Appreciation of the Works of Li Jianzhong’s Book of Consultation in the Song Dynasty

The calligraphy of the early Northern Song Dynasty inherited the tradition of the Tang Dynasty, which regarded plumpness as beauty. Li Jianzhong was a famous calligrapher in the early Northern Song Dynasty. His calligraphy was smooth and elegant, and had a profound influence on the calligraphers of the Song Dynasty. In addition to the fact that Huang Tingjian once praised his calligraphy as a "fat but not fleshy" beauty in the world, the biography of "History of the Song Dynasty" also praised his "excellent writing style, multiple new styles, Cao, Li, Zhuan, Zhen" , Eight points are also wonderful."

This work, also known as "Tu Mu Tie", is the representative work of Li Jianzhong's surviving ink paintings. One of the top ten running scripts in the world, Tu Mu Tie ranks tenth. "Tumu Tie", cursive calligraphy, paper. 31.2 cm long, 44.4 cm wide, 10 lines, 104 characters. In the works, the structure of the characters is tight and slender, and the writing style is calm and plump. Although it is written in running script, the strict regular script style is still visible at the beginning and end of the pen, which shows many characteristics of Tang calligraphy. In addition, since the ruler mentions "Xin'anmen" and is located near Luoyang, we speculate that it was written by Li Jianzhong when he lived in Luoyang in his later years.
