What does Guifeng Mountain in Xi'an look like?

Xi'an Guifeng Mountain is very popular in autumn. It is said on the Internet that half of the people in Xi'an go to Guifeng Mountain. Although it is a bit exaggerated, it can illustrate its popularity. Everyone knows that Guifeng Mountain is very crowded, but so many people still go there. Why? Some people even tease and laugh at people who go to Guifeng Mountain, thinking they are stupid, but I don’t think that’s necessary. This is just like Golden Week. Why do so many people travel even though they know that Golden Week is very congested? Because there is no other choice of time. Going even though there is a traffic jam just shows that our people are thirsty for the beauty of nature.

Recently I posted several photos of Guifeng Mountain, and many people added my contact information to ask for some information. In fact, everyone's questions are similar. They are nothing more than what the scenery is like, how to get there, where to climb the mountain, and how many hours it will take to reach the top. I have compiled a dozen representative questions and will reply to you all at once.

1. Where is Guifeng Mountain?

There seems to be more than one place in the country called Guifeng Mountain. There are two main famous ones: one is Guifeng Mountain National Forest Park in Jiangmen, Guangdong; the other is Guifeng Mountain in Qinling Mountains in Huyi District, Xi'an, which is currently an undeveloped Qinling Wild Mountain.

2. What is the origin of the name Guifeng Mountain?

Guifeng Mountain is located at the mouth of Taiping Valley, with an altitude of 1,528 meters. Because its shape resembles the Chinese character "Gui", it is named Guifeng Mountain. Many people are talking about how to look like Kei, but I honestly don’t know.

I tried to photograph Guifeng Mountain from the south, and it felt more like the word "Gui".

Guifeng Mountain overlooks the plain, with steep peaks and abrupt Cui Wei, reaching straight into the sky. In the Tang Dynasty, it had become a famous mountain in Guanzhong, and the "Guifeng Bright Moon" was one of the eight scenic spots in Huyi. In the Song Dynasty, Fan Zhongyan once drank wine and admired the moon here, and wrote the poem "It's as peaceful as Guifeng under the moon, leaning on the tall pines to listen to the flute."

When the weather is good, you can see the entire Qinling Mountains from Xi'an City to the south. Among them, Guifeng Mountain is very conspicuous. It is surrounded by cliffs on three sides and has a protruding top. Many people also call it "Jianshan".

3. Why do so many people crowd to Guifeng Mountain?

I think there are several reasons:

First, Guifeng Mountain is relatively well-known and influential in the minds of the people in Xi'an;

Second, Guifeng Mountain It is relatively close to the urban area and is suitable for citizens to travel on weekends;

Thirdly, due to epidemic prevention and control, many valleys and scenic spots have been closed. Undeveloped scenic spots like Guifeng Mountain do not charge tickets and are open 24 hours a day. Openness is welcomed by everyone;

Fourthly, many self-media bloggers spare no effort to promote it on Douyin and Xiaohongshu.

4. Which season is the most beautiful in Guifeng Mountain?

Guifeng Mountain is the representative mountain of Qinling Mountains. The scenery is different throughout the year, among which the red leaves in autumn are the representative of Qinling’s autumn scenery. In recent years, driven by self-media, it has become the most popular destination for red leaf viewing among Xi’an citizens. Throughout the year, there is no obvious congestion in Guifeng Mountain in other seasons, but it will be very congested during the autumn red leaf season. Because there is only one month of red leaf season, there are so many people coming.

5. How long can the red leaf season in Guifeng Mountain last?

Generally speaking, it starts to turn red in mid-October and lasts until around mid-November. How long it can last depends on the weather. Maybe a strong wind or a heavy rain will cause the red leaves to wither.

6. Is Guifeng Mountain worth visiting?

Generally speaking, it is still worth going. Of course, don’t think that the scenery of Guifeng Mountain is higher than that of other places in the Qinling Mountains. Everyone is in the Qinling Mountains, and no one can be better than the other. If you’ve never been to Xi’an, you should still go there. After all, you won’t be charged a ticket.

7. How many climbing routes are there on Guifeng Mountain?

Generally speaking, there are three. The first is to enter from Jiafotang Village in Taiping Valley; the second is to enter through Wusang Valley; the third is to enter from Huangbaiyu route. Of course, there are other experts who can tell you a few other things, so it’s not impossible.

8. Which path do most people recommend?

For those who are climbing to the top to enjoy the red leaves for the first time, the road to Jiafotang Village is relatively short, with a one-way distance of 3.6 kilometers and an altitude climb of more than 800 meters. And it is said that the red leaves here at the family Buddhist temple are more beautiful. The place is very easy to find. Navigate directly to Jiafotang Village. The navigation usually takes you to the village committee. From here, continue forward four to five hundred meters. There is a small bridge on the right. After crossing the bridge, you can start climbing.

The whole journey to the top of Huangbaiyu is almost 7.5 kilometers, so it is not necessary for ordinary travel enthusiasts. But if you have already traveled other routes, you can challenge other routes. Outdoors itself is a process of constantly challenging new routes.

9. How is the road condition? Will I be unable to find my way?

Because Guifeng Mountain is a wild mountain, it has no fixed management organization and no tourist attractions have been developed, so there are currently no tourist roads. There are only dirt roads that have been trampled by people for thousands of years. The main trail is very clear. In this season, there will be a lot of people going to Guifeng Mountain. You can just follow everyone and there is no possibility of going wrong.

There are forks in some places and they are all marked, so there is no possibility of finding the way.

Some sections of the road are steep, slippery and a little dangerous.
