Anecdotes and allusions of Knut the Great
There is a widely circulated story. One of Knut's deputies said obsequiously that Knut was the ruler of the ocean, and even the ocean would obey the orders of Knut the Great. Knut then ordered the chair to be placed by the sea and ordered the sea water not to wet the legs of the chair. As a result, he denounced the minister's nonsense, saying that God is the ruler of the sea and the king has only a little power.
