The moon shines on the tall buildings, and the lights upstairs are swaying.
There is a sad woman sighing upstairs.
Who is the sigh upstairs? The answer is a wife in another place.
My husband has been away for more than ten years, and he is often timid alone.
My husband is like dust on the road, like mud in dirty water.

Seven Sorrow is a five-character poem written by Cao Zhi, the third son of Cao Cao in the Three Kingdoms period. This poem takes advantage of a homesick woman's thoughts and resentment towards her husband, revealing the poet's resentment after being hit politically.

The poet compares himself to an "abandoned wife", compares his political exclusion to the unfortunate experience of his wife's abandonment, and compares his estrangement from Emperor Cao Pi to the divorce between his wife and her husband, which is "different from Yue Hu". The poet thinks that the two brothers are "ups and downs, but they are not close", and further compares their situation to "clearing the road dust" and "mud cement". "I wish for the southwest wind, I will cherish the memory of the deceased", secretly voicing my thoughts on serving the country; But, "you can't open your arms, what should you do with your concubine?" Expressing indignation at Cao Pi's ruthlessness, he reveals a sense of infinite sadness. Everywhere in the poem, from thinking about the sadness of women, every sentence implicitly contains the poet's sufferings. Poetry and painting are integrated, with implicit intention and profound and graceful brushwork, which truly has the characteristics of "both emotional appeal and elegance".
The beginning and end of this poem are quite exquisite. The first sentence not only wrote the real scene, but also rendered the sad atmosphere, covering the whole poem. The bright moon shines on tall buildings, which is the most urgent time for lovesickness. The wandering moonlight evokes the sadness of thinking of women-a group of images such as "bright moon", "tall building" and "thinking of women" created by Cao Zhi have been repeatedly used by later poets to express their hearts. At the end of the poem, the homesick woman's thoughts are like the fleeting breeze, "You can't open your heart". Where can she find her home? The last breeze and the first moonlight are isomorphic, forming a lonely and cold realm.
