The three ancient poems about the Qingming Festival are Du Mu's "Qingming", Lu You's "The First Spring Rain in Lin'an", and Zhu Shuzhen's "Huanxisha·Qingming", the details are as follows:
1. "Qingming"
It rains heavily during the Qingming Festival, and pedestrians on the road want to die.
May I ask where the restaurant is? The shepherd boy points to Xinghua Village in the distance.
Translation:
During the Qingming Festival, the poet could not go home to visit his grave, but he was alone on the road in a foreign land. With a sullen face, the fine rain fell down one after another, the eyes were hazy, and the spring shirt was wet. Poet, my soul is almost broken! Find a hotel to take shelter from the rain, warm yourself up, and relieve your worries. But where is the hotel?
The poet thought about it and asked the shepherd boy on the roadside. The little shepherd boy riding on the back of the cow pointed in the distance with his hand - Oh, in that village full of apricot flowers, a hotel was raised up in front of it, attracting pedestrians!
2. "The First Spring Rain in Lin'an"
The world is as thin as gauze in recent years, who makes people ride in Beijing?
Listen to the spring rain in the small building all night, and sell apricot flowers in the deep alley in the Ming Dynasty.
The short paper is laid slantingly, making grass, and the fine breasts are played in the clear window to share the tea.
Wearing plain clothes, don’t sigh in the dust. It’s still time to arrive home during the Qingming Festival.
Translation:
In recent years, my interest in being an official has been as light as a thin veil. Who asked me to ride a horse to Kyoto as a guest and soak up the prosperity? Living in a small building, I listened to the patter of spring rain all night long. In the early morning, I heard people hawking apricot blossoms deep in the alley. I spread out a small piece of paper and scribbled it calmly and slopingly, each word in order. On a sunny day, I carefully boiled water, made tea, skimmed foam, and tried to taste famous tea in front of the window. Oh, don't sigh that the dust in Kyoto will stain your pure white clothes. During the Qingming Festival, you still have time to return to your hometown in Sanin by Jinghu Lake.
3. "Huanxisha·Qingming"
The young peaches in the spring lane spit out crimson flowers, and the spring clothes are thin and light for the first time. The wind and smoke warm the swallow's nest.
The Xiang curtains in the small courtyard are not rolled up, and the red doors in the curved rooms are long and boring. The annoying scene is clear again.
Translation:
In spring, the peach blossoms are blooming in the streets and alleys. I just put on some light and cool spring clothes and wanted to go out on the street. The soft wind blowing in the face and the warm smoke rising from the treetops make people feel soothing. Under the eaves, swallows chirped and built small nests in the mud. However, she could not get out of this deep courtyard. The Xiang curtains hung low, the red doors were long closed, and the corridors were winding and deep. The bright spring scenery outside is so beautiful, but once the Qingming Festival arrives, we can no longer see it.
